Will any of my wireless devices interfere with my eBeam Edge Wireless?

No. All wireless devices are certified through the FCC to accept interference from other wireless devices and remain operational. See the Certification section.

What if the Wireless Dongle appears to have lost its pairing, can I still connect to the Edge Wireless?

Yes. The Wireless Dongle can be re-paired to the Edge Wireless receiver by using the Wireless Configuration Tool. This tool can be found on the eBeam Software CD included with the Edge Wireless product. The instructions are given below:

Plug your eBeam receiver directly into the computer, and the Wireless Dongle into an available USB port on the computer. The light on the receiver should show as green.

On Windows, install the Wireless Configuration Tool from the eBeam software CD or download the Wireless Configuration Tool. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the re-pairing process.

On OSX, install the Wireless Configuration Tool from the eBeam software CD or download the Wireless Configuration Tool. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the re-pairing process.

What if I lose the Wireless Dongle, can I still connect to the Edge Wireless? Can I get a new Wireless Dongle?

Yes. The Edge Wireless product can be connected to most Bluetooth adapters and modems through the control panel in the operating system.

If you need to order a replacement dongle, please contact your local eBeam reseller or contact to arrange for a replacement. The device will need to be re-paired with your eBeam Edge when you receive it.

How can I move my eBeam receiver farther from the computer?

There are three suggested methods to extend the eBeam Edge receiver’s connection to the computer. eBeam Edge is also available as a Bluetooth enabled receiver and has a range of up to 33 feet (10 meters).

USB Extender Cable: The first, and most straightforward way is to use an “active” USB extension cable. An active cable has special electronics to sustain the data signal, so you won’t lose any capture speed from the eBeam receiver back to your computer. A single extension will offer 16 additional feet. Most manufacturers claim that you can connect up to four active extension cables, plus the original device cable, for a total of approximately 80 feet.

USB Hubs: The second way is to use passive USB cables with USB hubs. There are two types of hubs: USB powered and self powered. The self powered hub has a power cord that needs to be plugged in, while the USB powered hub runs using power supplied by the computer. In general, it’s recommended that only self powered hubs be used wherever practical. The USB powered hub may only power a maximum of one hub, so you would need to alternate between the various ports as you go and may need to manually opem the USB port. The self powered hub powers all available ports which facilitates switching eBeam connections.

Put your eBeam on your network: The most complex option, but the only one that will allow you to extend the reach of the device beyond 80 feet (to any location within your network), is the USB Server. This server will allow you to put a USB device on a network, which can then be accessed by any computer on that network. It plugs into your network with a standard network cable and provides four standard USB ports. When you plug the eBeam into one of the ports, the receiver becomes available on the network and can be connected to any computer with eBeam software on it. There is a driver you will need to install on each of the computers for the USB server, but it is a small file (0.84 MB) and has a Quick Connect function accessible from the system tray. It will also be necessary that each user close the connection to the eBeam before another user can open it.

Can I upgrade my receiver with new firmware?

Since the eBeam system is equipped with a digital signal processor, it can be upgraded with new firmware. To upgrade firmware, please contact our customer support.

What type of whiteboard should I use with my eBeam system?

eBeam receivers were designed to retrofit existing whiteboards, so it is compatible with all types of boards. If you’re starting from scratch, though and are looking for a new board, the most important decision make is your own personal preference. Think about how you are going to use the board and what is important to you, then speak to a whiteboard professional who can make sure all of your needs are met.

The most important thing to keep in mind regarding the eBeam system is to make sure that your whiteboard isn’t too recessed into a frame. The system works by picking up ultrasonic waves emitted from the pen, so if the frame of your board is too thick, the waves will bounce off of it and will send intermittent signals back to the receiver. The second most important thing is to have a surface rigid enough to activate the pen. It requires about the same amount of tension as a ballpoint pen, so we don’t suggest using a projection screen. They allow too much give, and you could risk creasing the screen.

What type of battery does the Interactive Stylus require?

The Edge+ Interactive Stylus’ are fully rechargeable with the provided cables. Previous versions of the Edge products require a single AAA battery.

How do I use the Interactive Stylus?

The Interactive Stylus behaves exactly like the mouse attached to your computer. The tip of the pen is used to perform mouse left-click operations so you can navigate and annotate your desktop.

The larger top button is used to perform right-click operations. The smaller bottom button is used to hide and display the Tool Palette in the projection image area. Both buttons can be programmed for different functions if desired.

How do I change the functions that are currently programmed to the Interactive Stylus buttons?

To change the functions, select Options > System Preferences > Projection Tab from the Taskbar Menu in the system tray.

How do I remove the Command Adhesive strip from my whiteboard surface?

In order to remove the Command Adhesive strip from a whiteboard surface, grab the Command Adhesive tabs sticking out from the top and bottom of your metal mounting bracket. Pull each tab away from the center of the bracket until it pops off of your board. You might also want to have someone press lightly on the center of the bracket while you pull the Command Adhesive so the bracket does not pop off unexpectedly.

What if my wireless dongle does not pair automatically?

It is possible that HDMI cable is too close to the dongle causing interference.  Please use a different USB port away from HDMI cable to avoid this possibility.

If my Edge+ USB sensor becomes disconnected after a computer restart, what do I do?

If your computer Edge+ USB Sensor becomes disconnected or is not found after restarting your computer, disconnect the USB cable from the computer and reinsert it while your computer is on. This will reset the Edge+ USB Sensor connection.

How do I setup the eBeam Edge+ Sensor?

The Sensor should be placed on the far right or left side of the projected image, with a 2 inch space between the receiver and projected image. Make sure the eBeam receiver is centered vertically, and parallel to the edge of your image.

How do I attach the eBeam Edge to my board surface?

The eBeam Edge can be mounted using the Command Adhesive backing on any flat surface for the strongest hold. If you are using a board that is magnetized, the Edge can be mounted without using the Command Adhesive backing for a less permanent hold.

To mount using the adhesive backingPeel the Command Adhesive backing from the eBeam receiver. Place your eBeam Edge in the desired location, press firmly and hold.

To mount using a magnetic surface: Remove the metal mounting bracket from the back of your eBeam Edge. Place your eBeam Edge in the desired location on your magnetized surface.

How do I connect the eBeam Edge Wireless using the eBeam Wireless Dongle?

To connect the Edge Wireless using the Wireless Dongle, start by connecting the Edge Wireless to a powered USB outlet. If the LED ring on the Edge blinks blue, the device is ready for pairing. If the blue ring is solid, it is already connected to a Bluetooth device such as a different wireless dongle or another computer. With the LEDs blinking blue, plug the Wireless Dongle into your computer. The Wireless Dongle should connect to the Edge automatically.

What size can my active capture area be?

The maximum active capture area supported is 108 x 60 inches (275 x 152 cm).  The minimum active capture area supported is 17 x 11 inches (43 x 28 cm).

What are the system requirements for eBeam data conferencing?

In order to participate in an eBeam meeting, you must be on an Ethernet network using TCP/IP protocols and have a valid IP address.

You can participate in a meeting by downloading eBeam software even if you don’t have your own eBeam Edge receiver. You can also log in through the web using the latest Microsoft Internet Explorer version on PC or Safari on Mac OS X.

Does eBeam Edge work with Bluetooth?

The eBeam Edge works with Bluetooth, however you must be using a Bluetooth-enabled eBeam Edge in order for your system to work.

Can I connect to the eBeam Edge Wireless without the eBeam Wireless Dongle?

Yes. The Edge Wireless product can be connected to most Bluetooth adapters and modems through the control panel in the operating system. The instructions are given below:

Plug your eBeam receiver into the USB cable, the cable into the power adapter, and the adapter into an outlet. The light on the receiver should blink blue (it may show as green at first).

On Windows 7 or 8, go to Start, type “Add a Bluetooth Device” in the search box and press enter. Follow the on screen instructions and choose the eBeam device from the list of available devices. If prompted for a pairing code, enter 1234.

On Windows XP, go to the Control Panel, double click on Bluetooth Devices. Choose Add a Bluetooth Device. Follow the on screen instructions and select the eBeam device. If prompted, select “Use the passkey found in the documentation” and enter 1234 as the code.

On OSX, go to System Preferences, click on the Bluetooth icon. Click on Set Up New Device… and select the eBeam from the list of devices. Click Continue and if prompted, enter 1234 as the passkey code. Follow the rest of the on screen instructions.

What is the purpose of the button in the center of the eBeam Edge?

The button allows you to activate the calibration screen with one single push.  If you decide you want to exit the calibration screen, just press the button again to escape.  A LED ring surrounds the button which will glow green when the receiver is connected to a computer using the USB cable. If you are connected through Bluetooth this ring will glow blue.

What is the range of the eBeam Edge Wireless?

The eBeam Edge Wireless can operate wirelessly up to 164 ft (50m) from the host computer.

Can my Edge Wireless also work with the standard USB cord?

Yes, all eBeam Edge Wireless enabled receivers also have the ability to work in USB mode by directly connecting the USB cable from the Edge Wireless receiver to the computer.

Will my eBeam Edge Wireless cause any interference with any of my wireless devices?

What device is compatible with the eBeam Smartmarker?

iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac OS, and Windows devices.

How do I connect the eBeam Smartmarker to my device?

  1. Connect via Bluetooth through the eBeam Marker App.
  2. Start the eBeam Marker application.
  3. eBeam Marker will search for your sensor.
  4. Once the sensor is found, select the sensor name on the list.
  5. The application will notify you when your sensor is connected.

Where do I connect my dongle?

How do I place the sensor on my surface?

You can place our sensor on any magnetic surface, such as whiteboards. If your surface isn’t magnetic you can use the provided magnetic mounting bracket.

  1. Attach the magnetic mounting bracket to the back of the sensor by lining up the bump on the bracket with the indent on the back of the sensor.
  2. Remove the protective backing on the tape and place the sensor firmly onto the surface. Press firmly for best adhesion.

* When you attach it to the surface, make sure you leave a 2in (5cm) margin between the capture area and the side of the sensor.

Where is the best place to put the eBeam Smartmarker sensor?

The sensor can be placed on the top, bottom, left or right side of your surface. Make sure the sensor is centered to the side you select. Also leave a 2 inch space between your sensor and the capture area.

Why is my writing not showing up on my device?

Make sure your sensor is placed within the default board size, if not, please calibrate your surface.

The default board size is 8ft x 5ft and set for the sensor to be placed on the left side of the whiteboard or capture area.

You can customize your board size by selecting the “Board Size” option found within the App.

Why can’t the eBeam Marker App find my sensor?

  1. Check if the sensor is powered on
  2. Check if the sensor is on Bluetooth mode
  3. Check if the sensor is already connected with other users 4) Check if the sensor and device are located within 5m
  4. Try restarting your device.

What is Memory Mode?

Memory mode lets you write and save notes to the sensor without connecting a device.

How do I use Memory Mode?

Press the Bluetooth button once on the bottom left side of the sensor. When the LED light beside memory mode is on, everything you write will be saved to memory.

Sensor memory can save up to 20,000 pages.

TIP: Notes saved on the sensor can only be downloaded by connecting the USB cable to your PC (Windows/Mac).

How do I download data from Memory Mode?

Download steps:

  1. Connect the eBeam Smartmarker Sensor to your PC using the provided USB cable.
  2. Power the sensor on.
  3. To start the download, in eBeam Note, navigate to:
    Menu –> Memory –> Download Memory

If the memory cannot be found, follow the above steps.

If the memory does not work properly, navi- gate to the menu and select
Memory –> Memory reset

What is the purpose of the button found in the center of the eBeam Smartmarker sensor?

One press generates a new blank page on the app.

If you press and hold for a couple of seconds, it will then duplicate the page you are on in the app.

How to I place the dry erase markers in the digital sleeves?

  1. Press the side button with the ridges to open the end of the digital marker.
  2. Insert the marker and close the end.

What type battery does my digital eraser use?

The eraser is powered using a single AA battery. To replace the battery, slide the top cover open and insert a new one.

When the LED light turns in red, it means the battery power is low.

How long will my sensor and digital markers last for in a single charge?

Sensor: 3 hours of charging, 8 hours of continuous usage

Digital Marker: 3 hours of charging, 15 hours of continuous usage

What is the difference between the eBeam Smartmarker and eBeam Smartmarker Complete?

The Smartmarker Complete comes with additional accessories such as a blue, green, and red marker sleeve. It also comes with a multi-charge cradle station that charges all the marker sleeves and sensor at the same time.

How can I collaborate with others?

You can invite others to see your captured writing in live time by using our Meeting feature. You can collaborate with others by giving them writing access within the app. Share your notes with anyone, anytime. The meeting feature can be found within the eBeam Marker App.

Can I sync my work to Dropbox or a similar platform?

You can sync your work to Dropbox, Onenote, Google Drive, iCloud, and Evernote.

How do I convert my writing to text on?

This feature is only available after connecting with the eBeam Smartmarker. Please refer to the User Guide for further instructions.

How can I save my notes?

Your notes automatically save every 30 seconds to the app. You can save your notes within the app in Notebooks of your choice. You can also export your notes as a Pdf, Powerpoint, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF.

Bluetooth Pairing with iOS and Android devices

eBeam Smartpen utilizes latest Bluetooth LE technology so pairing is not required. Simply
launch the desired app, and connect with the sensor.

How do I replace the ink cartridge?

Place the pen tip in the hole below USB port in the cradle, then move the pen from left to right
and pull out the pen; the ink cartridge should pull away.
eBeam Smartpen also includes stylus tip. To access it, remove the receive from the cradle,

What does the green LED on the receiver mean?

Is eBeam Smartpen compatible with any iOS apps?

eBeam Smartpen is compatible with dedicated iOS apps only.  There are eBeam Note, eBeam Meeting and eBeam Keyboard app that is compatible with eBeam Smartpen.  All are available free from the App Store.

How do I remove an ink stain from the pen and/or receiver?

Apply rubbing alcohol to a soft, dye-free fabric, such as cotton, then gentry rub the affected area.

How many pieces of paper can the receiver clip on to?

The receiver can safely clip to as many as five pieces of paper at a time – clipping the receiver to more than five sheets may cause pen recognition issues.

Why won’t my eBeam Smartpen turn on?

If you are unable to turn on your eBeam Smartpen by pressing the power button on your receiver and pen, try charging them.


To charge your eBeam Smartpen:

  1. Insert both the pen and receiver into the charging cradle.
  2. Plug the charging cradle into a USB port on your computer using the included micro USB charging cable. (or use a compatible wall charger, if available)
  3. The LED display will light up, which indicates that the battery is charging.
  4. For a full battery charge, leave the pen and the receiver in the cradle for approximately two hours.


If the LED display does not illuminate after docking the pen and receiver in the cradle, see “My eBeam Smartpen does not charge when I place it in the charging cradle.”

If your eBeam Smartpen’s LED display does not light up when the pen and receiver are sitting in the charging cradle, please try following:

  1. Make sure your cradle is plugged into a USB port directly on your computer – not a USB hub.
  2. Make sure your computer is turned on or eBeam Smartpen will not charge.
  3. When you dock your eBeam Smartpen by placing the pen and receiver in the cradle, make sure you insert the hardware correctly.  The receiver needs to lock firmly into place, and the pen needs to sit horizontally in its slot. (insert the pen’s tip end first, before pressing the pen into place).  The LED display should light up


If your eBeam Smartpen’s LED display still does not illuminate, the USB port you selected may not provide power.

  1. If there is a problem with the USB port, try plugging the charging cradle into another free USB port on your computer.
  2. If the display light up after switching USB ports, leave the pen and receiver in the charging cradle for approximately two hours for a full charge.


If your eBeam Smartpen still won’t charge while docked, try cleaning the contacts on the cradle and eBeam hardware.

To Clean the contacts:

  1. Take an eraser and rub the end of blank area of paper to make sure the eraser is completely clean.  
  2. Without applying downward pressure that might bend the contacts, gently rub backwards and forwards on the surface of the metal contacts the cradle uses to connect with the receiver.
  3. Rub the eraser on a blank area of paper to clean it again.
  4. To clean the pen’s contacts, in a circular pattern, gently rub the metal contacts the pen uses to connect with the cradle.

My eBeam Smartpen is disconnected.

Your pen and/or your receiver may have run out of battery.  Recharge the pen and/or receiver by placing in the charging cradle and connect the cradle into a USB port using the charging cable.

To monitor the battery status

  • When the receiver battery is running low, the receiver will flash amber when you turn it on.
  • When your pen battery is running low, the pen will flash 3 times when you turn it on to remind you to recharge soon.
  • Check your pen and receiver battery status in eBeam Note app.

Alternatively, your eBeam Smartpen maybe out of range.

eBeam Smartpen’s Bluetooth connection to your device gives you a range of up to 33 feet.

If your receiver is out of range, the connection will drop.  Move back in range and the receiver will reconnect.  You may have to re-establish the connection with your device via app.

How do I add the Handwriting Recognition feature?

Why did I lose access to the Handwriting Recognition with my eBeam Smartpen?

What are the factors that affects the accuracy of my notes?

The main factors that affects the accuracy of eBeam Smartpen are the line of sight between the pen sensors and the receiver, the stroke speed, and position of the receiver, ultrasonic noise, and other ‘white’ noise at certain frequencies.

Make sure that the receiver is properly attached to your paper.  For best results, insert more than one piece of paper into the receiver clip to prevent accidental movement of the receiver.

eBeam Smartpen may not work property if your receiver encounters interference or is blocked.  You will want to remove anything that may be obstructing the receiver.  Make sure that you hold the pen without covering the pen signal area.

Your pen communicates to the receiver through infrared and ultrasonic signals.  Sometimes external noises or lights, such as those emitting from a nearby motion detector, can interfere with the signal.

Can I use a ruler or template to draw lines and shapes?

Using templates, rulers and straightedges can interfere with the signal between the pen sensor and the receiver.  We do not recommend that you use them.

Why does my pen make noise when I write?

eBeam Smartpen generates a soft buzzing sound only when pressure is applied to pen by writing on the surface. This sound is not harmful in any way, and it tells you that your eBeam Smartpen is working properly.

When writing or drawing with eBeam Smartpen, it is normal to hear a soft buzzing from the pen tip. This buzzing sound is an indication that the pen is powered on and sending information to the receiver.

How should I store my eBeam Smartpen?

When the eBeam Smartpen is not in use, store the pen and receiver in the charging cradle for recharging.

How do I clean my eBeam Smartpen?

Your eBeam Smartpen is not waterproof. Any exposure to water will damage it and nullify your warranty.

To remove ink stains, apply rubbing alcohol to a soft, dye-free fabric, such as cotton, then gently rub the affected area. Use a soft cloth for general cleaning and keep food and any liquids away from your eBeam Smartpen. Do not leave your eBeam Smartpen in damp environments.

How can I replace my receiver battery and pen battery?

How can I organize my notes?

Use eBeam Note’s Notebook to organize and better manage your notes.

A Notebook is like a folder, which contains one or more Pages. eBeam Note lets you capture your handwritten notes and sketches into individual Pages.

When you first open eBeam Note––after the tutorial––you arrive at the Notebook view. This central location is where you’ll find all your saved content.

You can have as many Pages and Notebooks as you like!

How do I transcribe my handwritten notes into text?

Use eBeam Note’s handwriting recognition feature! This tool, free with eBeam Smartpen (or through in-app purchase for other users), will convert your handwriting into editable text on screen. You will be prompted to install a language when you access handwriting recognition for the first time.

What is the file format that eBeam Smartpen uses when I share my notes?

When you want to share your notes over email, you can convert your content into a PDF. Otherwise, the default file format is .JPG.

Your original files can be imported and opened by anyone with eBeam Note installed on their computer or mobile device.
